THE STORY BEHIND THE CRAFT

About CoinCrafters

Handcrafted coin rings and coin jewelry, made one piece at a time from authentic coins and nearly 14 years of experience at the workbench.

Turning History Into Something You Can Wear

CoinCrafters began with a simple fascination: taking an authentic piece of history and transforming it into something that could be worn and enjoyed every day.

For nearly 14 years, I have been handcrafting coin rings and coin jewelry from genuine coins. What started as an interest in the art of making coin rings grew into CoinCrafters and years spent learning, refining, and improving the process. Every coin presents its own challenges, and over time I’ve developed the techniques and specialized tools needed to transform them while preserving as much of their original character and detail as possible.

Handcrafted Coin Rings, Not Mass Produced

Every CoinCrafters ring is individually made by hand in my workshop. These aren’t factory-made rings with a coin design stamped onto them. They begin as genuine coins—some of them well over a century old—and are carefully punched, annealed, folded, stretched, sized, sanded, and finished into wearable pieces of history.

That hands-on process is one of the things I enjoy most about the craft. No two old coins have lived exactly the same life, and no two finished rings are completely identical. Small differences in wear, toning, dates, and surviving details give each piece its own character.

Preserving the History in Every Coin

I’ve always believed the history of the coin should remain an important part of the finished piece.

Whether I’m working with a Morgan Silver Dollar, a historic U.S. coin, or another coin from around the world, the goal isn’t simply to turn a coin into a ring. It’s to create handcrafted coin jewelry that still looks and feels like it came from the original coin.

The lettering, dates, mint marks, edge details, and natural signs of age are part of what make these rings special. A coin may have spent decades changing hands before eventually finding its way to my workshop. Turning it into jewelry gives that piece of history an entirely new life.

Made in the CoinCrafters Workshop

CoinCrafters has changed quite a bit over the years, and so has my workshop. What hasn’t changed is the way the jewelry is made: one piece at a time, by hand.

Over the years I’ve built up a collection of specialized dies, presses, stretchers, forming tools, and finishing equipment specifically for making coin rings. Some of those tools make the process easier, but the most important tool is still experience. Knowing how far a particular coin can be stretched, when the metal needs to be annealed again, and how to preserve its details without damaging the ring are things that only come from making a lot of them.

And after nearly 14 years, I’ve made a lot of coin rings.

A Piece of History, Made to Be Worn

One of my favorite things about this craft is knowing that something I made may be worn for many years and eventually passed down to someone else.

Some customers choose a coin ring because of a particular year. Others choose one because of the country, coin design, silver content, or history behind it. Morgan Silver Dollar rings and other historic silver coin rings can carry more than a century of history before they ever reach the workbench. Sometimes a coin simply reminds someone of a parent, grandparent, or another part of their family’s past.

Whatever the reason, my goal is the same: to make beautiful, durable coin jewelry that respects the history of the original coin and is comfortable enough to actually wear.
